My Personal Tributes

In Memory of my Brother-in-law
1952-2004

October 20, 2004

Dear Friends,

We lost my husband's older brother this morning.  He died at age 52, due to Stage 4 cirrhotic hepatitis C and Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer).  He was a father, a husband, a brother, an uncle, self-employed with two businesses, a musician (bass guitarist) and songwriter.  We will miss him so much.

Sandi :(

In Memory of Vicki LaChapelle "Vicster"
1952-2002

I shared with Vicki our struggles with Hep C and our family concerns through my ICQ online list since 1998. To know how much she endured with her health, not only with cirrhosis, but she had survived a cerebral haemorrhage in Sept. 2001.  She was the first contact person listed under Connecticut on my website. I thought one day I would meet Vicki, as my oldest brother had recently moved to Massachusetts from Michigan. Vicki passed away peacefully at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002.  The pneumonia, and the complications from the HCV, were more than could be overcome.

My deepest sympathy to Vicki's family and friends,
Sandi

In Memory of My Friend, Gord "The Scotsman"
August 28, 1950- September 6, 2002

I am deeply saddened about the tragic loss of Gord "The Scotsman," as he liked to be called. I shared with Gord our ongoing battles with Hep C and supported him as best I could online since 1998. I celebrated that he had found Margaret, they were married on New Year's Eve of '99/00 and in Nov. 2000, they had a beautiful baby, Emily to raise together in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Gord was an inspiration to other heppers showing that no matter if one is infected with this disease, life can go on and one can find a non-hepper to share their life with, and have healthy children. Our families are avid campers and we enjoyed sharing each other's stories of camping trips. We thought one day we would all get together and sit around a campfire.

I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to meet Gord at one of my support group meetings in July, 2001, in Whitby. Meeting Gord for the first time was "Like seeing a long, lost friend." To know how heroically Gord fought the battle with this insidious disease, and to have been stricken down as a result of a motor vehicle accident, is just so unfair.

My sincere condolences to Gord's family and friends.

Sincerely, Sandi

In Memory of "Uncle" David Lang

My Tribute for Uncle Dave

A longtime advocate for HCV awareness, David Lang touched my life and made a positive difference in many other fellow heppers' lives.

"Uncle Dave" was the very first person I talked to online through two large, international email Hep C support lists in early 1997. He connected me to my fellow Canadian heppers - I had felt so alone back then.

David was a wise person with a strong sense of justice, humour and compassion. Supportive advice he shared in 1997:
<Change and adapt and learn from and about this disease. If nothing else, having chronic disease starkly shows me how mortal I am and short life is. It narrows possibilities and yet frees me. I have a unique opportunity to focus on what is truly important to me. To try to become the best possible person I can be every day.
Best regards, "Uncle" Dave Lang --With my mossy side pointed North in Seattle.
" I have given up seeking the Truth. Now I'm looking for a really good Fantasy." >

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Dave's family and friends.

Sincerely, Sandi

Dear Rose,

Please accept my sincerest sympathy for the sudden loss of our dear fellow crusader, Dan (Bear) on April 8, 2001.  I admired your hubby, Dan for his strength of character, his sense of humour, strong faith and his friendship. You have both always been available to listen and be supportive when I would see you pop up on ICQ. Whenever I sent an ICQ message to members on my list for help for a fellow hepper, you and Bear were always willing to offer assistance. I've watched as you both went through the struggle of compensation from the VA. I've enjoyed hearing the fishing stories from Minnesota and sharing our mutual family news since 1999.  Dan made a positive difference in my life and many other fellow heppers.

In sympathy, Sandi

Mar. 13, 2001

Dear Laura and Donna & family,
Please accept my sincerest sympathy for the passing of your cherished father. I had known Ron since 1998 online through the past and present Canadian Hep C mailing lists. Memories that come to me when I think of Ron are his sense of humour, devotion to his family and his drive to bring justice to those people infected with Hep C through the failed blood system.

I remember Ron's witty, thought provoking literary pieces:

"SOON TO BE SHOWN AT YOUR LOCAL INQUIRY THE ROCKBUSTER MOVIE OF THE YEAR:
ROCKY '98" and "OPPRESSION IN OTTAWA -1 and 2."

Ron the Reaper was an unswaying crusader.

In deepest sympathy,
Sandi

Cookie
December 29, 2000

I have been chatting on ICQ with Cookie since May, 1999. We chatted about family, God and just plain joked around a lot on ICQ. "Laughter is the best medicine."  Her contact information on my Hepper Contacts Worldwide Page helped reach fellow heppers in her area- Indianapolis, Indiana.  I'm going to really miss her. :(

In sympathy, Sandi

Oct. 14, 1999 Jude Saucier, a fellow hepper from Louisiana has just passed away from complications of HCV. Jude was the Ringmaster who started The Hepatitis Webring in 1997.

In August, 1997, my website< Sandi's Crusade Against Hepatitis C was Site #30 added to the ring. The Hepatitis Webring included 148 hep-related websites. Under the Health-Disease category of Webrings, The Hepatitis Webring was #1.

Jude's love, sense of humour and dedication were an inspiration to all fellow heppers. He will be sadly missed.
